Tell us about your experience leading a change in your library and/or in your community.
I have worked in public libraries for 30 years – my “change” experience ranges from designing and opening new facilities to initiating new initiatives such as early literacy programming to grant making and evaluation.
What is your mentoring philosophy & style?
I ask a LOT of questions – first to understand the goals of the individual and then to help them dig deeper into “why” they want to do something or take a particular direction. I’m also a librarian, so mentees get links to articles and real-world examples to help them imagine or replicate the work in their settings.
What else would you like a leadership mentee to know about you?
I enjoy helping people solve their challenges or achieve something new (especially if they don’t know yet if they can achieve it). I am curious and supportive, and will be on your side to cheer you on as you make progress with your project.
