Tell us about your experience leading a change in your library and/or in your community.
I'm a change junkie, so there are lots of examples, but I think the one I'm proudest of was the ILS migration we did four years ago at my library. I managed the *heck* out of that change — both the project management and logistical details part, and the emotional response to a big change part — and we had a nearly painless migration process. Our vendor actually told me it was the smoothest migration they'd every done. 🙂

What is your mentoring philosophy & style?
I want to give you tools, strategies, approaches, etc. that you can use to be successful with whatever you're doing now, and that you can put in your toolbox for use throughout your career. I ask a lot of “What would happen if you…” questions and make a lot of “I can imagine a bunch of reasons someone might…” statements — getting you to frame your challenge in a different way might just be the key to unlocking your leadership superpower.

What else would you like a leadership mentee to know about you?
For me, everything always comes back to the idea that great library service *anywhere* is good for all of us. I get a lot of personal satisfaction knowing that if I can help you be even better at your job than you are now, and that helps you provide better library service in your community, it makes the world a better place.
