Stephanie Chase
Libraries of Eastern Oregon
Executive Director

Tell us about your experience leading a change in your library and/or in your community.
As Director in Hillsboro, OR, I implemented a large-scale staff and organizational change, removing the traditional silos in library work, implementing a strengths-based, horizontal reporting structure, and requiring all staff to provide direct public service. As part of this change, we removed our public service desks.

What is your mentoring philosophy & style?
I like to think of myself as thought partner with my mentee, letting their needs guide our conversations and work together. I prefer a conversational and informal relationship, with the mentee recognizing they are responsible for their own accountability.

What else would you like a leadership mentee to know about you?
I am a certified executive coach and bring those skills to our conversations. And many of my past colleagues and direct reports have complimented me on my cooperative leadership style.
