Susan O'Connell
Library Director
Craftsbury Public Library

Tell us about your experience leading a change in your library and/or in your community.
I have worked with several boards and directors of very small libraries to help them find ways to make the library more relevant in their community. Solutions have included partnering with the local school and developing small library collaborations.

What is your mentoring philosophy & style?
I think many people know more than they realize and believe that much of the work of a mentor is to listen to the mentee and help identify and clarify the solutions and ideas the mentee is already working toward. Having read quite a few of the Outfielders applications, I already know that if you made it into this institute, you are an amazing, motivated, innovative individual and I expect any mentoring relationship will be a benefit to me as well as you are an inspiring bunch.

What else would you like a leadership mentee to know about you?
I prefer video meetings or email to telephone calls.
